Difficult to wake up in the morning

I find it very difficult to fully wake up when my alarm goes off and am continuously late for work, i have been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea and was wondering if this could be anything to do with my difficulty waking in a morning ?

Answer

One of the most common symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea is feeling tired during the day, from the first minute when you wake up until the evening.

Patients with sleep apnea usually have an unrefreshing sleep and they want to sleep more, and they don't want to wake up.

Excessive sleepiness (ES) during normal awake hours has been documented in patients with OSA in multiple studies and may be considered a health-related quality of life issue of particular relevance in OSA.

For example, the Wisconsin Sleep Cohort Study, a random sampling of middle-aged workers, found that 22.6% of women and 15.5% of men who had an AHI > 5 reported experiencing frequent unrefreshing sleep and uncontrollable sleepiness that interfered with life.

That's why a patient with sleep apnea can be late for work, and can also have accidents if he's driving to work or at the work place.

Do you already have a CPAP machine? If the pressure from your CPAP is right, and the mask has a good fitting on your face, you should wake up refreshed in the morning.

I hope it helps. Don't be afraid to comment back.
