Can be complications with bariatric surgery and untreated sleep apnea?

Answer

It can occur complications with an untreated sleep apnea if you want to have a bariatric surgery. Does your bariatric doctor know you have sleep apnea?

A bariatric doctor shouldn't schedule a surgery unless the patient has been on CPAP therapy for at least 2 months prior to the surgery.

The difficulties arise during your time in the recovery room during which time you have to breathe on your own (while sleeping). They often request that you bring your CPAP machine to surgery with you. During surgery the anesthetist will ensure that you breathe freely.

One more thing...depending on the amount of weight reduction a pressure adjustment may be required post surgery...mention your forthcoming surgery to your sleep specialist.
