How much "true sleep"
during eight hours?

by S. Moore
(Indy)

I just completed a sleep study where they found I was having an episode one every minute. My question is ... at that rate, how much actual "sleep" am I getting in eight hours?

Answer

An apnea episode occurs when you stop breathing for 10 seconds or more. So, if you stop your breathing one time in every minute, you should stop your breathing at least 600 seconds per hour, which means that you don't have time to enter in REM sleep.

You stop breathing in sleep 60 times per hour, or 480 times in eight hours(!) so you are deprived from sleep and oxygen. No "actual" sleep.

Bottom line...You have severe sleep apnea, and you probably already have health hazards, right?

Moore, you don't have a restful sleep at all.

The fact that you completed the sleep study is a very smart move. You are on the right path, and soon you will feel what a restful sleep means.

I hope I answered your question.

Remy
