CPAP mask broken
by David

I have a full face mask it has been ok until now. When I breath the air was escaping and making all sorts of noises like rasberry blow etc.
I found the main pipe connection had come apart I glued the flange together again, the vynal blew up as air went into the mask but it sounds like a big air leak when in use. I feel I must be losing 50% or more pressure and waking up tired.
Have you any ideas as to fixing this or would I need a new one? I can go to hospital to do this if I need to.
Answer
If you have insurance, I recommend buying a
new CPAP mask.
Medicare, and thus most
insurances, replace a CPAP mask every 3 months, but the headgear can be replaced only every six months.
As far as I know, Medicare just changed their hose replacement policy from one a month to one every 3 months.
Either at the Respironics website or the Resmed website there is a schedule of Medicare replacement policies. However, anyone on Medicare can register and access info on their benefits at http://www.mymedicare.gov.
Bottom line, if you have insurance, and your insurance replaces CPAP masks, you should take advantage of it.
I hope it helps. Don't be afraid to comment back.
