After using BiPAP for over 11 years I wrote a book so others do not have to reinvent the wheel
by Bruce Stein
(Kalamazoo, MI 49009)
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea over 11 years ago and given a BiPAP machine. I fought with it as it did now work well for me. From my training as a biochemist, I learned how to modify systems and as a patent attorney I am always looking to make something better. With this background, I now can prevent the tube from getting caught in he bedding, can detach and reattach the tube at night easily with only one hand, have taken it on two cruises, to London, Australia, Germany, and about 20 states and solved most of the day to day problems.
I wrote all this in a book, "CPAP and Sleep Apnea - A Users Manual by A User" which can be ordered from any book store or is on
Amazon and
Barnes & Nobel. The Executive Director of the American Sleep Apnea Association reviewed it and posted the following review at Amazon.com:
Bruce Stein has written an excellent and very readable "user's manual" for Positive Airway Pressure therapy devices (CPAP/BiPAP). I put user's manual in quotations because, as the author reminds the reader regularly, his book does not replace the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Mr. Stein addresses a number of the issues that can interfere with the successful use of therapy. One example is using the device while traveling. He provides a checklist of items traveling apneic should have on hand to address any eventuality.
For those new to therapy, this book should go a long way to flattening the learning curve to successfully treating your condition.
